Making the decision to replace your aging, drafty windows may come at any time. Perhaps you are tired of paying high heating bills – and still feeling chilly. Or summer’s sun shining through your old windows has faded your drapes and upholstered furniture. Of maybe you are just tired of windows that get stuck, or rattle, or need to be scraped and painted – again.
Whatever your reason for replacing your windows, you probably want to make sure you get the job done at the right time of year. But is there a “best time” to replace your windows? Should you wait until spring or summer when the weather is nice? Can you get it done during the fall, in time to combat winter’s cold? Does anyone in their right mind replace their windows during the winter months?
The answer is, there is really no “best time” for window replacement. But there are pros and cons to each season.
At Rescom Exteriors, our window replacement work continues virtually all year long. Our crews are so experienced and well trained that they can generally complete a window installation in less than an hour, limiting the exposure to elements. Most homes can be done in a single day. Keep in mind, every window we install at Rescom is pre-measured and custom sized for your home, so we don’t waste time having to demolish your wall to force a fit.
- SPRING – If you choose to have us replace your old windows in the spring you’ll have the advantage of favorable weather. So any exposure between removing an old window and installing a new one will be tolerable. However, lots of homeowners choose to replace their windows in the spring, so you may have to be patient when it comes to scheduling.
- SUMMER – People love to replace their old windows during the summer months, as they are almost guaranteed that there won’t be any snow or ice to deal with! Longer days make it even easier for our crews to install more windows during daylight hours. Again, scheduling in advance is important. If you want new windows during the summer, the time to make the decision is during the spring.
- FALL – Installing energy efficient replacement windows ahead of winter’s cold is a great idea. You’ll start to realize a return on your investment with your very first heating bill! But fall in New England can bring chilly temperatures and more frequent rain. Be prepared to wait out a possible “rain delay” of a day or two.
- WINTER – Not many people think about replacing their windows in the middle of winter. But there are significant advantages you’ll enjoy with winter window replacement. Scheduling is generally much easier, as our crews are not as busy during the colder months. You may also find window prices are lower during the winter, as an incentive to keep our installers busy and working. And, unless we are experiencing blizzard conditions, our efficient installation process keeps exposure to a minimum. You might be a little chilly for a few hours, but will quickly warm up to your new Rescom windows!
