Winter may have hung around longer than expected here in Massachusetts, but Spring has finally arrived and brought with it thoughts of sunny, warm summer days. As you prepare your backyard patio or deck for summer fun, don’t neglect one important feature: the sliding door that provides access from you home to the sunlight and fresh air.
If your home is anything like mine, your sliding doors will be constantly opened and closed over the next several months. Between kids coming and going, trips between the kitchen and the patio table, and friends and neighbors gathering out on the deck, my sliding doors get plenty of use all summer long.
Luckily, I had the foresight to install our Bristol® sliding patio doors in my home. I still retain long ago memories of heavy aluminum or steel-framed doors, rumbling and squeaking along a track that frequently jammed. Boy, patio doors have come a long way since those days!
Today I can open my patio door easily, with just a gentle touch. It glides almost noiselessly along a quiet track that has never jammed, in spite of heavy daily use. And, instead of a “one-size-fits-all” shiny metal frame, my patio doors look great, with a nicely accented frame that coordinates with my home’s décor.
I also remember my parents’ old sliding doors being either too hot to touch during the summer, or freezing cold and coated with condensation and frost all winter. That never happens now. Energy-efficient insulated glass sharply reduces the transfer of heat and cold between the inside and outside. So the area around the patio doors is no longer a “danger zone” to be avoided!
Okay, enough about me bragging about my Bristol® patio doors. I’m ready to head home, slide back the door to my deck, and fire up the gas grill for burgers and dogs, and a nice evening enjoying the sunset. Who’s with me?
