This is a story about a tiny piece of our Bristol Windows that you’ll never see, but will make a huge difference in how much you pay to heat and cool your home.
First you need to understand how today’s windows are engineered. Instead of a single thin pane of glass between you and the great outdoors, modern windows (like Rescom’s high efficiency replacement windows) have glass “sandwich” made up of two or three panes of glass. The empty space between each pane is filled with inert gas like Argon or Krypton, which serves as a thermal barrier to reduce energy loss.
That’s great, except for one tiny detail that many window manufacturers overlook. The individual panes of glass make up the sandwich are separated along their edges by a structural piece called a “spacer.” It serves to hold the panes rigid but also make sure they stay apart (thus the name, spacer).
Many windows on the market today use spacers made of of inexpensive material such as plastic or aluminum. The problem is that these materials easily allow heat and cold to pass through, defeating the purpose of the glass sandwich and significantly reducing the effectiveness of the window.
At Rescom we pay attention to every detail, and that includes the spacers in our windows. Our window manufacturer has invested in additional research and created the BR50 Enviroseal Spacer System, which is the most advanced available. The BR50 spacer is made of non-metallic polycarbonate, a space-age material that stops the transfer of heat, cold and moisture. That allows the glass sandwich and its inert gas pockets to really work more effectively.
The BR50 Enviroseal Spacer System is hidden from view when looking at your new windows. But knowing it is there and doing the job of sealing in energy and preventing outdoor air infiltration should give you a warm feeling, all winter long!
This is just one more example of how paying attention to the details pays off in a replacement window that simply performs better and delivers better value for you.
